Virtuosic sarod player and beloved teacher Ali Akbar Khan died on June 18th. Among his many students was the guitarist Harry Manx who performed for ACT in Tamworth a couple of years ago. In this way, and perhaps in others, Ali Akbar Khan’s life touched the life of our community. He wrote of his training on the sarod: “If you practice for ten years, you may begin to please yourself, after 20 years you may become a performer and please the audience, after 30 years you may please even your guru, but you must practice for many more years before you finally become a true artist—then you may please even God.”
