The Arts Council of Tamworth Presents “Sublime Odissi,” The Art of Classical Indian Dance

The Arts Council of Tamworth is pleased to present “Sublime Odissi,” the art of classical Indian Dance with Mouli Pal, a mesmerizing performer, dedicated teacher, and emerging choreographer.  

Meet the Artist, Mouli Pal on April 1

On Monday, April 1 from 6pm to 7pm, the community is invited to Meet the Artist at the Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth. Mouli will make a short presentation on her art form and her training, and discuss what she will be doing during her 5-day artist-in-residency at the K.A. Brett School (April 1-5) and her Thursday performance. On display will be her costume, head-dress,  jewelry and ghungroos (ankle bells), each of which is a work of art. Attendees will also be able to sample Indian snacks and dessert. 

An Evening Performance of Odissi on April 4

On Thursday, April 4th at 7:30pm, Mouli will provide an evening performance at the Public House on Page Hill. This enchanting evening of Indian classical dance will evoke moods of passion and devotion, rooted in ancient temples of India but relevant to our contemporary world. Mouli will be performing a "Pallavi" based on raag Hamsadhawni. This beautiful piece is perfect to set the mood for a festive evening. This performance will be "choose your own ticket price" with a suggested donation of $10.  Tickets will be available at the door or online in advance at bit.ly/4a7rueq.

Prior to the performance, the Public House on Page will be offering a traditional Indian dinner buffet, serving from 5pm to 7pm in the Pavillon. The cost for the buffetis $60 including tax and tip. Reservations for the dinner are recommended: visit publichouseonpagehill.com or call 603-601-4655.

About the Artist, Mouli Pal

Mouli Pal, an exponent of Odissi,has been intensively trained under the personal tutelage of the legendary Maestro Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.  Presently she continues to train under the guidance of eminent Odissi dancer, Smt. Nandini Ghoshal in Kolkata. 

Mouli is regularly presented by prestigious organizations across the United States, India and Austria. Her performances include solo concerts at the prestigious Hopkins Center for Arts at Dartmouth College, Provincetown Dance Festival, Munroe Center (Massachusetts), Yuva Bharati (California), and TriNethra (Massachusetts).  Mouli is also the founder and director of Upasana Odissi, a non-profit that promotes Odissi through concerts and offers scholarships to young deserving college-bound dancers. She teaches widely and mentors about 50 budding Odissi dancers from 5 years to 55-year-olds. 

She has received several awards and grants including the New England Foundation for Arts and Massachusetts Cultural Council. In 2019 she was awarded the "Padmawati Rasthriya Award" by National Cultural Mission in Odisha.
