My two most excellent bands are combining this coming Saturday the 29th to play the 16th Annual Bluegrass Gathering at Apple Acres Farm in Hiram, Maine. Sweet Life Revue with Rachel Sorlien, Katie O’Connell, Chris Buerk and myself and The Starlight Honeys with Samantha Tracy, Katie O’Connell and yours truly will be playing sets at 11:00 and 2:00.
For extra-bonus the bands “Bits and Pieces” will be playing and also one of my favorite bands “The Bagboys”.
Admission is only $7.00 for adults and free under age 16. There is a chicken barbecue available starting at noon.
We are very excited about this gig and hope you will venture over. Only 45 minutes or so from Sandwich.
Next week on Wednesday, September 26, at 8:15 a.m., Sandwich Central School will host Barynya, a Russian music, dance and folk song ensemble. Barynya presents Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian, Jewish, and Gypsy Roma traditional dancing, songs and virtuoso performances on instruments including the balalaika, garmoshka, and balalaika contrabass. Every dance is performed in different sets of costumes inspired by the place where the dance originated. This group has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, and the United Nations in New York.
Local friends are welcome to join us on Wednesday morning at 8:15 a.m. for this hour-long show. There is no cost, but we do ask that you call the school (284-7712) no later than Tuesday afternoon to request a seat so we know how many to set up.
