Our fabulous head librarian in Tamworth, Jay Rancourt, is also a woman of deep and broad artistic talent and skill. She is the Mount Washington Valley Arts Association's Artist of the Month for November, with an opening reception this Friday, November 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the MWV Visual Arts Center at 16 Norcross Place in North Conway, NH. Here is the press release for the exhibit, "A Creative Life":
This exhibit will include artists' books, paintings in watercolor and acrylics, prints, sculpture, woven baskets, silk paintings and collages, decorated gourds, and lamps. Jay Rancourt works enthusiastically in many media. Making things - all kinds of things - has always been a daily practice. She learned to weave in 1970 at Penland School of Crafts, and leaped into a 39 year career of creativity. In 1996 she became a librarian at Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth, where she teaches art classes in various media to all ages and continues to make exuberant art in her free time.
