Start your holiday season in style with a fun, romantic, jazzy, bluesy evening in the lovely dimly-lit Brass Heart Inn barn in Chocorua, NH. Arts Council of Tamworth is thrilled to be bringing jazz guitarist and singer extraordinaire Miss Tess and her band, The Bon Ton Parade, to the Brass Heart on Saturday, November 20, at 7:30 PM. Bootleg Magazine says, “Her singing is like someone looking you in the eye, the feeling genuine and meaningful.” How can her voice be so clear and so sultry at the same time? Come spend an evening basking in the modern vintage sounds and exceptional musicianship of Miss Tess and her band, and you’ll find out.
Miss Tess is all over the news these days. The Boston Phoenix says, “Miss Tess plays scrumptious old-time jazz and blues like some Tom Waits/Billie Holiday hybrid,” and the Portland Press Herald says she’s “jazzy, retro, cabaret-esque, sweet...old-timey, enchanting, sometimes a little folky, and sometimes she's got the blues.” Sing Out Magazine says “Miss Tess is true jazz, baby. She's saucy, sassy, and sexy as all get out,” but Music City Roots thinks Tess and the band are something more: “…When this quartet gets going, you can’t tell where the music is coming from—1930 to 2020 would be a good guess. It’s got all the classic elements and all the trained chops of great jazz, but they definitely make a fresh statement.” So come if you love jazz, but keep your ear tuned for Western swing and rockabilly, blues and country—Miss Tess can’t be pigeonholed.
Based in Brooklyn, Miss Tess and The Bon Ton Parade have been getting around—from NYC’s Blue Note to Blues Alley in D.C. to the Brass Heart Inn in Chocorua. In addition to Tess on her 1940s archtop guitar, the current lineup includes Raphael McGregor on lap steel, Danny Weller on upright bass, and Matt Meyer on drums.
