Arts Council of Tamworth is delighted to offer two opportunities for lovers of jazz, great musicianship and great showmanship to hear the Frank Vignola Trio on Friday, April 8 (scroll down to get a taste of these fab musicians). Led by the irrepressible guitarist Frank Vignola with bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and boy wonder Vinny Raniolo, the trio will offer a mini-concert and Q & A at the K. A. Brett School in Tamworth, NH, at 2:00 PM. Free to the public and ideal for music students, jazz aficionados, and all other interested parties, this is a chance to meet and interact with three brilliant, entertaining, funny, accomplished musicians. At 7:30 PM at The Brass Heart Inn in Chocorua, NH, the trio will play a full concert of jazz standards and more—they can play anything forward, backward, and upside down—and really fast, too! All the clichés apply: run, don’t walk, to get tickets for this show, a rare opportunity to see music of this caliber far from the cities—and to see three guys having so much fun together.
Vignola is one of the most accomplished, multi-dimensional players walking the planet today. Monster player, composer and improviser, Vignola plays proficiently in every genre, from jazz to bluegrass, and works with everyone and their brother. Vignola’s pedigree is a mile long, but a quick Google will illustrate why he is considered one of the best on the planet.
Whether he is featured on a Donald Fagen recording, a jam with David Grisman, as Les Paul's right hand man, touring with Australian guitar wizard Tommy Emmanuel, or leading his own groups throughout the years, Vignola has proved himself to be in the elite creating his own unique sound. Throw in Mazzaroppi’s decades of intimacy with his gorgeous over-a-century-old upright bass—he and that bass have shared the stage with artists as diverse as Lionel Hampton, Stan Getz, Renée Fleming, Willie Nelson, Bela Fleck and Alicia Keyes. Top it off with the multi-instrumentalism of Vinny Raniolo, and—are you ready?—this will be a night you will remember.
