http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EH1KAdeTkY Just in from Lianne:
It's that time of year again when we set up our tent, light the grill, and soak up the sounds of some excellent bluegrass.
This year's Bluegrass on the Bearcamp at The Community School features The HillBenders. Check out their website to hear a sample or take their word for it:
"Undeniably the hottest young band on the acoustic scene, The HillBenders have been winning over audiences from coast to coast with their unique style, original compositions and relentless drive. These buzz-worthy bluegrass whiz-kids are quickly rising above many of their peers and gaining international recognition for their aggressive combination of contemporary influences with traditional inspiration and instrumentation, as well as their infectiously energetic stage performances. Claiming the championship title at the 2009 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition helped put The HillBenders on the map, and their recent victory at the 2010 National Single Microphone Championships prove that they continue to be a force to be reckoned with."
Opening up will be our tried and true local bluegrass favorite (and so much more), Idol Hands. Enjoy the banter and the pickin' Douglas, Peter, Bob, and Lisa have now perfected. Need I say more?
Last year's local foods BBQ was such a smash hit, we'll replicate the spread for you, offering grilled grass-fed beef burgers (raised right across the river on Fred Bickford's farm), a trio of salads (quinoa, pasta, greens), and the can't-live-without-it Sandwich Creamery ice cream selections. If this doesn't tempt your palate, feel free to bring a picnic dinner!
Dinner and ticket costs for this scholarship fundraiser remain at last year's prices: $15/adult, $10/seniors & students, $5/12 and under. Get a dinner plate (1 burger and two salads or 3 salads) for only $8. Ice cream cones are $1. We'll have plenty of ice water. Burgers and salads can be purchased for $3 per serving.
I hope you'll support this event as it makes possible the scholarships almost all of our students need to come to TCS. Put it on your calendar, and feel free to pass on this email—far and wide!
See you Thursday, July 21 at 6 PM,
