ACT's 3rd Annual All-Ages Dance Party & Cake Walk (It's a Black Fly Ball! It's a Mother's Day Fling!)

Wondering what to wear?

Come dancing! Back by popular demand: Arts Council of Tamworth is excited to host its third annual All-Ages Dance Party with DJ extraordinaire Karen Williams at 6:30 PM on Saturday, May 11 at the K. A. Brett School in Tamworth, NH. It’s a Black Fly Ball, a Mother’s Day Fling, and, new this year, we’re adding a Cake Walk! If you love musical chairs, if you love bingo, if you love high-speed speed dating, if you love CAKE, you’ll love a cake walk: buy tickets, dance to the music, win all kinds of cakes, from chocolate to vanilla, from coconut to gluten free. Then, at 7:30, fortified, start dancing! We’ve had so much fun the last couple of years doing everything from the East Coast swing to the Macarena with friends and neighbors from under nine to over 90. Pick out a fun or fancy outfit, practice a few new moves in your kitchen, bring your favorite sweetheart, your kids, your parents, your grandparents, bring your friends and neighbors…especially, bring your mother! Karen Williams will play seventy-five years of dance music, from swing to rock ‘n’ roll, from line dances to disco and funk. Prizes will be handed out for categories invented on the spot. Brownie points for wearing an apron to the Cake Walk portion of the evening! It’s the perfect way to get your endorphins going and take a leap toward summer. This is a public event; children must be accompanied by an attending adult. Tickets at the door; refreshments available.

Have a favorite song that always gets you moving? Send your requests to act@artstamworth.org. We’ll pass the list on to our DJ, and post some of them on our website so you can get in the mood. Want to practice? Check out these “Top 10″ YouTube dance lessons, or browse back through our Dance Party posts to learn some moves and hear some great tunes. More tunes here, and more inspiration. Choose your own ticket price: Adults, $5 to $30, Kids to 18, $0 to $5. This is ACT’s spring fundraiser: ticket revenue and Cake Walk proceeds help support our artist residencies for kids and community. Please come support this work.
