Draw On! Arts Council of Tamworth (ACT), in collaboration with the Cook Memorial Library, the Chocorua Public Library, The Remick Museum, St. Andrew’s-in-the-Valley, the Tamworth Lyceum, and the UU Fellowship of the Eastern Slopes, invites you to celebrate the power of drawing all around Tamworth from Saturday, April 13 through Tuesday, April 30. Drawing is one of the ways we tell our stories. Through drawing we can entertain, educate, and communicate. Drawing is fun!
Ongoing drawing opportunities for all ages will be available in Tamworth during the two+ weeks of Draw On!. The Cook Library will have a dedicated drawing table with drawing materials, how-to books, and great examples of wonderful line drawings by children’s book illustrators. The Chocorua Library invites you to draw what you see when you read your favorite stories. St. Andrew’s-in-the-Valley has a program called “Conversations with God: Praying our Prayers.” Zip-lock bags with markers and file cards are available to parishioners of all ages, who are invited to draw their prayers (Help! Thanks! Wow!). Drawn prayers can be offered in the offering plate, placed in a basket, or given to Heidi Franz-Dale. The church will post any that folks want to have made public.
Area residents will also have three great opportunities to draw in community. All events are free. During both school vacation weeks, the Remick Museum is offering “Charcoal Drawing of Farm Animals” with artist, teacher and museum educator Kathy Johnson. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 PM (April 16-18 and April 23-25) in the Education Building—a great activity to participate in with your children!
The UU Fellowship of the Eastern Slopes (UUFES) will take part in Draw On! on Sunday, April 21st at 10:00 AM. During the morning service participants will honor and celebrate the trees of the forest—the lungs of this precious planet. Everyone will have the opportunity to take up pencil and paper (thank you, trees...) and make art for art’s sake. In words, sketches, doodles, shade and light—in community—participants will Draw On!
And on Monday, April 29, from 5:30-7:30 PM, the Tamworth Lyceum will offer an evening of Life Drawing, with (clothed) model Nichole Gould. Please bring your own supplies; some drawing boards will be available.
Then, come to ACT’s Tamworth Youth Art Show at Runnells Hall in Chocorua on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5, from 10 AM to 4 PM each day, to see what our young people have been drawing and painting.
Draw On! is a community festival introduced by The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT in 2006 to bring together people of all ages through the simple act of drawing. In 2012, over 80 institutions nationwide hosted Draw On! programs in their towns.
