Tickets on sale at the door for Fireside Storytelling
Now that the sled dog races in Chocorua have been canceled, all the more reason to come snowshoe and listen to stories beside a warm fire. Tickets will be on sale at the door for Fireside Storytelling at Tin Mountain tomorrow. Storytelling starts at 3:30, snowshoe excursions begin at 1:00, with plenty of Tin Mountain snowshoes available for use, and good things to eat and drink will be available in between.
Your snowshoe storytellers will be Matt Krug and Joan Veilleux:
Matt Krug is known throughout the valley as a teacher, naturalist, and star watcher. His stories draw from each of these experiences. These stories often include animals, farms, and objects from the night sky. He will be telling a story about winter and how the big dipper got into the sky.
Joan Veilleux is from Brownfield, Maine. While working as a naturalist for the AMC in 2003 she discovered a love for storytelling. In the evenings at the Highland Center Lodge and on the trail she told stories of the history of Crawford Notch and the White Mountains. Since then Joan has presented on numerous occasions with the Mountain Storytellers Guild at libraries, coffee shops and fundraisers in and around the Mount Washington Valley.
You can find out more about this event and the afternoon’s storytellers here.
Stay warm…

Support ACT: end-of-year giving and the gift of experiences…
Hi everyone,
As you contemplate the end of the tax year and make last minute tax-deductible donations, please consider donating to Arts Council of Tamworth. ACT has low overhead, so your contributions go directly toward presenting and promoting diverse, exciting performances in Tamworth, and to funding high-quality creative experiences for area youth. We look toward the next performance season with excitement as we plan to present a couple of old favorites, bring new talent to the area, and expand our jazz and classical offerings. We are also excited to bring more of our work with kids directly into the school system through artist residencies and in-school performances. We are grateful for the support of our community in the work we do, and love to hear from you. You can donate in any amount here through PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account), or send a check to Box 1, Tamworth, NH 03886.
Another way to support ACT is to give tickets or gift certificates as the best of all stocking stuffers, the gift of memorable experiences that fill the heart but not the house. Board president Annie Riecken will be at the Tamworth Holiday Farmers’ Market at the K. A. Brett School this Saturday, December 19, from 10:00 to 2:00 to sell you real live tickets, or you can buy tickets online here and ask that they be held at the door in the name of the recipient. Click on the image below to download a PDF listing of the remainder of the performance season.
Thanks so much for all your support throughout the year, and blessings upon your New Year.
Juno, for ACT

The Barnstormers in gingerbread!
Posted for The Brass Heart Inn:
Hi all! As some of you may know, The Brass Heart Inn is part of the annual Inn to Inn Cookie Tour, and as part of that we submitted a gingerbread house for a charity competition. Peg Loughran generously baked and shaped the gingerbread into…the Barnstormers Theatre! You cannot believe how gorgeous this creation is, and we at the Inn would love if anyone and everyone stopped by to take a look!
You don’t have to be a participant in the Cookie Tour to come by and take a peek. We are amazed and awed by the talent demonstrated and would have to waste its beauty on a mere 500 guests of the tour!
Baked by Peg and decorated by The Cake Baker (Theresa Struble), this gingerbread house is something to be proud of. Please stop by this weekend and take a look!

Chickens Galore! at The Community School

Posted for The Community School:
Those who value the preservation of our rich local heritage have long appreciated the fact that the lobby of The Community School is dedicated to showcasing the talents of area artists. This week a new exhibit debuts: a delightful assortment of paintings, drawings, and three dimensional representations of that familiar farmyard fowl, the humble chicken.
Seventeen different folks had a hand in creating this endearing exhibit. The Streeter family brought in a wooden hen house cut-away showcasing a proud rooster, his harem of hens, and a clutch of eggs in the laying box. “Buc-Buc-Buc,” a silk scarf hand painted by Jay Rancourt, graces the wall by the front door, and paintings, needlework, greeting cards, and photographs fill the room. On the corner table is an antler-based lamp topped by one of Jennifer Allen’s unique lampshades.
This exhibit is free and open to the public during normal school hours. Why not plan to come by on Thursday for The Farmer’s Table lunch (don’t forget to call ahead so we know how many to plan for), warm yourself by the wood stove, and enjoy this lively new exhibit on display.
Call for info or to let us know you’ll be staying for lunch — 323-7000.
