More cool news about what friends and neighbors are up to deep in these northern woods. Jeff and Sharon Malenfant are publishing a magazine!

Un<>Cut Magazine is a new magazine devoted to the work of artists from all over the world. Tamworth artist Jeff Malenfant (who works and publishes under the name “liketelevisionsnow”) created the bi-annual magazine which debuted last July. “As an artist, I wanted a magazine that focused on the work and words of global artists rather than the traditional format in which art magazine articles are written by critics or art historians,” Jeff says. “I think it’s very important that artists have an opportunity to present their work on their own terms, and the internet is giving us a chance to do so.”

Laying Ski Tracks

by juno February 2, 2011

A poem-in-progress kindly shared with us by Marnie Cobbs, hot off the “poetry press” and speaking to this day:

Snow

by juno December 27, 2010

A poem by Peggy Johnson, of Wonalancet:
SNOW
Welcome, ancient snow

with the woodpile
and the leaves
the forgotten toys
and the path
Make this a wilderness
where we can practice
navigating
the unknown places
our hearts
Teach us that our falls
are cushioned by you
even when you caused them
oh wilderness
and unknown
Let me not try to [...]

Solstice at McNalls’

by juno December 21, 2010

A poem by Peggy Johnson of Wonalancet.
Solstice at McNalls’
a toast
And here we all are,
all getting tighter
or looser
in our joints and our teeth
with the years
and the drink.
We toast our hosts
and each other, and
life and fortune,
eat and drink,
and in this warm place
we believe these candles
hold back the cold,
While we talk and eat, they beckon
beyond planets
to their own [...]

Christmas Tree

by juno December 20, 2010

A poem by Heather Pike, Tamworth Learning Circles, 12/13/08.

Christmas Tree
Emerald green needles,
spread outwards by nut brown limbs,
which get thinner, and thinner, yet thinner,
and then come to a stop.
Tied with silver ribbon,
golden lights glimmer and glow,
hung on the boughs.
Gifts lie in wait underneath the tree
to delight the children in the morning.
O, the splendor of the Christmas [...]
