About Snapdragon

The Birth of Snapdragon

Pirates of the Pacific; 2008

After staging over thirty local productions during the last twenty years through Tamworth Learning Circles, combining the forces of our school group with an after-school group of children from other local schools and homeschoolers, we have founded the Snapdragon Theatre Guild, a local children’s theatre company. Snapdragon will offer productions and classes as an after-school activity throughout the school year. Also, for the past three summers we have extended our reach by taking on KidsCamp for the 7 to 12-year-olds in the Advice To The Playerssummer Shakespeare program.

Advice to the Players is a community theatre company, bringing together professional and amateur adults and teenagers to present and produce plays and programs, mainly Shakespeare, in our area. It is our sister company, and many of the young people who have been involved in ATTP over the years have had their start as children with us. We are the natural seedbed of the coming generations of adults experienced in and passionate about theatre. There is a natural divide between our activities at about the age of 13-14. In the wider educational community there is a fair amount of high school theatre, but much less at the elementary level. Our mission is to light the torch and pass it on.

Earlier this year, the first Snapdragon production was our adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland”, performed at the Brett School in Tamworth and the Sandwich Town Hall. This production involved the excited participation of over 30 local children ages 5-13.
