Plays & Workshops

SNAPDRAGON THEATRE GUILD calls young actors aged 5-13 to take part in ITS WINTER PRODUCTION of SIR GAWAIN AND THE GREEN KNIGHT. An adaptation of the ancient poetic tale of Camelot and the court of King Arthur, based on the great Middle English poem. Join the knights and ladies of the Round Table for a Christmas celebration like no other! Mummers will entertain the splendid court until they are interrupted by a “half giant” from folklore and the deepest recesses of our minds. A challenge is set to Sir Gawain that only the bravest and best could undertake. How will he meet it? This play offers fun and lively parts to newcomers, and meaty lines and characters to older and more experienced cast members.

Will Cabell will direct a class in stage performance skills when creating character roles. We will look at stock characters from stories and familiar plays and develop walks, speech, and mannerisms which portray them. Students will be given written and text assignments as homework to share in class. Theater games and warm-ups will stress stage skills: voice clarity and projection, movement and gesture.

Theater work is fun, joyous and creative, and MORE: the benefits of theater training extend beyond the arts. Theater training helps children gain confidence, provides practice in collaboration and cooperation, and, by teaching them to speak clearly and expressively in front of others, helps them across all the academic disciplines and in many possible careers.

The 2011/12 School Year—Our Program

It is part of our mission to offer experiences of theatrical skills training and productions during the whole school year. Theatre classes will be offered in September/October and in January/March. A holiday production will be staged at Runnells Hall in December, and our Spring production will take place in April. All programs and rehearsals will be held at times of day suited to students at local schools as well as TLC students and home schoolers. Details of these programs above and to follow.
