 SNAPDRAGON THEATRE NEWSLETTER, JANUARY 2012
The Year of the Dragon begins! We hope that this is a good omen for Snapdragon! We are hoping that this is the year our children’s theatre company becomes completely established, and widely known for exciting classes and productions, building on the reputation of Tamworth Learning Circles’ long involvement in this field.
Our plans for 2012 at present are for a Barnstormers Theatre production of Arabian Nights this April, a Shakespeare Kidscamp in July in Sandwich, working again in collaboration with Advice To The Players, and Fall/Winter classes with a production to be announced later.
ARABIAN NIGHTS
This will be a production of some of the famous stories in the cycle, such as those of Sinbad and Aladdin, together with a revival of a complementary short play from the TLC canon. Because the play will have various “acts”, it will lend itself to our fulfilling our mission to give performance opportunities to students aged 5-12, from Tamworth, Sandwich and the surrounding area. Arabian Nights will be a full-scale production in a real theater, and there will be opportunities for a range of roles and acting skills. On board on the directing side will be Will Cabell, Marion and Richard Posner, and Susan Yakutis, who has great experience of young people’s drama, and is also a board member of TLC. Will will also be in charge of set design, lighting and sound. We feel we have a great team!
The cast will be divided into THREE casts of players:
Cast A (ages 8-12) will be based in Sandwich for early rehearsals, and then join with the others in Tamworth. Very well focused and enthusiastic 6-7 year-olds would be considered for this group.
Cast B (ages 8-12) will be Tamworth-based throughout.
Cast C (ages 5-7) will be also be Tamworth-based, with a shorter program.

A NOTE ON COMMITMENT, AND CONFLICTS:
We want the children to have the experience of a serious commitment to this team effort, together, of course, with a lot of fun! Our rehearsal schedule is carefully planned, and while we shall respect any conflicts we are told about in advance, unreliable attendance will inevitably mean that less responsibility shall be given in any future productions. Please consider these points when you sign up.
APPEAL: SNAPDRAGON WILL BE LAUNCHING AN APPEAL IN ORDER TO OFFER SUBSIDIZED PLACES IN ITS PRODUCTIONS FROM THE FALL OF 2012.
